Payana is worth a watch for many reasons. Payana is a feel good film which has a neat presentation. Popular Television actor Ravishankar who immortalized the character of Dr. Vittala Rao in the Silly Lalli makes a good debut. The film's heroine Rumaneethu looks ravishing on screen. Totally the film makes an interesting viewing for film fans who look for good quality films.

Yet, Payana has many weak points in it that makes us wonder whether the young team was really prepared to take up the huge responsibility of making a very good film. The film lags mid way with too many sequences that could have been chopped off at the editing table. And there are many things that look too coincidental for any logical assessment. And there are many predictable sequences and ineffective editing work which has affected the quality of the film.

Payana reminds us of many films made by Yash Chopra. The influence of films like Dil To Paagal Hai and many other films directed by Yash Chopra is clearly visible.

Ravi is a cabbie driver working for a Travel Agency. He is full of zest for life and believes that all his dreams would come true in real life. The dream is about a beautiful and rich young girl wanting to marry him. All his friends know about his dream. Kaveri, an NRI engages Ravi as a Driver for a ride around the tourist spots of the state. Ravi feels that Kaveri is his dream girl who has been sent by God. The long journey delights Kaveri and slowly she understands that Ravi loves her. Though Ravi shares this feeling, he does not reveal it to Kaveri. Later, Kaveri's father returns to India for permanent settlement. He also appreciates Ravi and makes him to work as a Car Driver in his house. Finally after several turn of events, all the things end perfectly for Ravi.

Music director Harikrishna has done a great job in song compositions. Two songs, Modada Olage and Manasa Gange, rendered by Sonu Nigam are top class. And cameraman Jnanamurthy has also done fantastic work behind the camera to shoot the sequences that please your eyes. Kiran Govi the debutant director also shows promise in the picturisation of the songs of the film. Chinthan's dialogues touch your heart strings.

Ravishankar makes a good debut in this film. He had mastered the art of playing a comedy oriented role on Television, but in this film he looks appropriate to play a cabbie driver who dreams and thinks positive. Rumaneethu Chowdhary has never looked so well in any of her previous films. Her cute looks and slim and trim figure will appeal to young fans. Rangayana Raghu, Sharath Babu have brief roles and manage themselves well.

However the comedy sequences involving Mandya Ramesh and Bullet Prakash fail to entertain and it should have been scissored out.
