Madhur Bhandarkar has always had a flair for subjects with dark shades that brings out the cruelty and shocking facts prevalent in our society, a subject least attempted by many a directors. Popularly known for directing hard-hitting films like 'Chandni Bar', 'Corporate', 'Page-3' and 'Traffic Signal', Madhur is all set to hold a mirror to the glamorous and tyrannical Fashion Industry. Is it just another finicky cinematic ode to the world of Fashion or is it an ambitious take on the industry? With a very alluring star cast comprising of former Miss World Priyanka Chopra, talented Kangana Ranaut and popular model Mugdha Godse along with many models, will Madhur succeed in convincingly unveiling the secrets hidden by the glitz and glamour of the fashion industry.

The movie is about the rise and fall and phoenix like re-birth of India's number one Supermodel. Set against the glittering backdrop of the glamorous but ruthless world of haute couture fashion, this tells the story of one small town girl with a dream and the determination to make it a reality.

Meghna Mathur knew in her bones that she was meant to be famous. Ever ambitious and bright with stars in her eyes, even as a girl with conservative parents from a small north Indian town - she dared to dream of bright lights and the big city... The world of fashion - the clothes, the colors, the make-up. . . all of these form a part of a fascinating world that Meghna longed to be a part of. Meghna never wanted to compromise on anything on her journey to success - as she puts it - whoever said intelligent women couldn't be glamorous? She reaches the peak of her success and rises to walk the ramps for leading designers across India. The fashion world lies at her feet - the parties, the brand endorsements, the photographers, the models, the romance and of course - the shows! However destiny catches up with Meghna as she slowly starts to pay the price for her fame and her journey to the top. Her attempt at a comeback was going to be a near impossibility. However she was never a woman to turn away from a challenge...

"Fashion" explores the world of style through the emotional personal journeys of the key people that make the industry - the dream-weavers of that elaborate world of glamour: the models, designers, photographers, businessmen, agencies etc. In the world of image - makers - is it possible to conquer it and remain true to yourself?

The first thing that strikes you while you watch Fashion is the amount of research that has gone into the making of the movie. The movie has a very realistic feel to it and many scenes have a striking resemblance to real life incidents. Like the infamous Carl Gracious wardrobe malfunction about 2 years ago and Geetanjali Nagpal's journey from glitz and glamour to begging on the streets of Delhi, a story that shocked many. With an interesting tight script on his hands, Bhandarkar had already won half the battle and with perfectly executing it, the ace director has a winner on his hands. Also the fact that the director has managed to convincingly direct and create hype around a movie without a single male star, in itself deserves a thundering ovation.

Fashion isn't without flaws though. The only thing that could go against it at the box-office is the pace of the film, which is dreadfully slow. It's so slow that it takes a good amount of sheen away from the movie.

Salim - Suleiman music is splendid and adds a lot to the overall feel of the film. The thousands of costumes used look perfect. The dialogues much like most Madhur Bhandarkar films are superb.

Priyanka Chopra delivers a career defining performance. In a role that provides immense scope for delivering something truly special, Priyanka excels. Kangana Ranaut has a comparatively smallish role and performs quite well. Mugdha Godse is super good in her debut. Rest has almost nothing to do.

To sum up, immense amount of hard work has gone into making Fashion and it clearly shows in the final product. Watch it!
