25 years ago Dharmendra started his own production house and named it Vijeta Films. And with the release of Chamku in 2008, the banner celebrates its Silver Jubilee. Chamku stars Bobby Deol and Priyanka Chopra. The supporting cast include Irrfan Khan, Danny Denzongpa , Ritesh Deshmukh, Rajpal Yadav, Arya Babbar. The movie is directed by Kabeer Kaushik who last directed Sehar (Arshad Warsi, Mahima Chaudary) in 2005.

The movie is based on a true story of a Naxalite from the southern interiors of Bihar. It depicts the way the system abuses innocent human lives. Chamku son of a farmer is rescued by a group of Naxalities although his parents are killed by a evil Thakur. Chamku grows with the Naxalities, learns to kill and make a living in the deep forests of southern Bihar.

One fateful day the Naxal's are captured by the police, Chamku and his colleagues are captured. Chamku survives although his colleagues are killed in encounters. Kapoor (Irrfan Khan) hires him to kill criminals and terrorists. What follows is a series of assassinations staged by the state ministry.

But what is a Hindi movie without a love story? Shubhi (Priyanka Chopra) a schoolteacher enters Chamku's life. They fall in love with each other, although Shubhi doesn't know anything about him. What turn does Chamku's life take is what forms the rest of the movie titled 'Chamku'

The story gives you an idea that the movie is one of those 'out dated' storylines. Wherein the hero takes on the entire system and emerges as the winner. The movie starts off very intensely but soon fizzes out. Its gets very predictable and you tend to know just exactly what could happen in the next scene. It's one of those seen-a-hundred-times-before in the 90s movie.

A little more on the life of a Naxal like Chamku's childhood and his growing days would have been interesting rather than the quite predictable learns to use the gun stuff. We all know that someone who grows with the Naxal's is bound to end up learning how to fire and live in the forest, don't we?

The Bobby Deol - Priyanka Chopra love story too was unnecessary, but a Hindi movie needs a love angle plus it also attracts the audience to the theatre, doesn't it?

The music by Monty Sharma is decent, a few songs are melodious.

Bobby Deol with a stubble, bears no more than 4 expressions throughout. Although it is one of his better performances in recent times. Priyanka Chopra.. hmm what's she doing in the movie? No scope to perform, she looks good. Danny Denzongpa is great. Ritesh Deskmukh doesn't suit the role he portrays. Irrfan Khan is fantastic.

Overall, Chamku is watchable ones if you don't mind watching those typical Bollywood Stories that have been told a million times before. Nothing unique or different to look forward to. Watch it on DVD if you must.
