Citizen Movie Review
Dialogue King Sai Kumar once again acts as a Police officer in this bilingual film made both in Kannada and Telugu. And the monotony clearly shows throughout the film as neither Sai Kumar nor its director have tried to make a difference in this film. Hundreds of films have come and gone with similar story lines and in case of Citizen even the dialogues of the film have been uttered many a times in several films of its hero Sai Kumar.
The promos of the Citizen boast that it is the fiftieth film of Sai Kumar. And the film is directed by Veteran Sai Prakash who has directed more than sixty films in his career in Kannada and Telugu. But Citizen severely fails to deliver mainly because of a weak script of C.V.Reddy and ordinary directorial work of Sai Praksh. This Veteran director who has made films with many top Kannada stars has once again proved that he is the master of mishandling. He has included an item number, four rapes, and five fights in the film just to add some commercial values for the film.
What is wrong with the film? Keeping track of many weak points in the film is not difficult. Practically everything in the film attracts attention because of a haphazard presentation and a boring narration. The film fails in both its story and technical content. In these days when all the South Indian films are competing with each other with high technical inputs, Citizen's narration reminds you of the films made in the sixties when there were no technical equipments to heighten the technical standards. No actor or technician of the film has done his home work properly to contribute anything for the film. And there are many films of Sai Kumar as a Police Inspector where similar sequences were seen before.
The film revolves around Bharat, a Police officer who does not compromise and will be tough with even with his top cops and influential politicians. The Home Minister gets angry when one of his cronies is arrested by Bharat who refuses to release him. And an angry Minister transfers Bharat to an isolated place called Durgapur in the riot torn Bellary district. Durgapur is completely under the control of a Don called Simhadri. After facing many humiliations, Bharat decides to fight valiantly. He uses his brain and brawn to settle scores with Simhadri and put an end to all the atrocities.
Sai Kumar looks too tired to perform this role as he has done the same role many a time before.
He has not changed any thing starting from his dialogue delivery to his body language which remains the same. Heroine Vaibhavi comes and leaves without an impact. Ashish Vidyarthi who plays the role of Simhadri is too predictable. All the other artists have delivered below average performances.
Vandemaataram Srinivas's song composition or Manohar's camera work does not add anything to enhance the quality content of the film.
Citizen is an ordinary film. You don't miss anything if you avoid this film.
