Kannada film industry's leading star Ganesh acts with top line heroine Ramya for the first time in Bombaat which has been directed by Veteran director D.Rajendra Babu. And since the film is produced by Rockline Venkatesh, the film aroused lot of expectations before the release. And the fact that Ganesh was having an image make over to act in a mass oriented role for the first time was sufficient for his fans to go on a frenzy of hype before the film's release.

But this hugely awaited film fails to live to the expectations and craze built around it because of its weak story and unconvincing screen play. Despite some efforts by Ganesh to look convincing in his new avatar, the film becomes an unimpressive effort because of the lack of good story content.

Bombaat boasts of an array of proven technical experts like Music director Mano Murthy and Cameraman Shekhar Chandru who have done their job perfectly. But Janardhan Maharshi who has written the story and M.S.Ramesh who has written the dialogues have to be squarely blamed for their poor contribution. And Maharshi has simply hatched up a story with many sequences that have been seen many times before and fails to give proper orientation to the major characters to the film. And because of the weak foundation in the form of an unconvincing story, the film Bombaat looks completely out of place.

Writer Janardhana Maharshi has used many sequences that are seen in Telugu films like Aata, Dhee, Happy and many others in Bombaat which makes it easy for the audience to identify the source of these sequences. Do we need such hotpotch mix of sequences in a big budget film of top stars?

Ganesh plays the role of Anand, a street smart youngster who adopts a carrot and stick policy. He believes that he has to use his brain and solve the emanating problems than to resort to violence which would be the last option. However, Shalini a foreign educated girl and daughter of a Police Commissioner meets him in different situations. Shalini mistakes Anand to be a rowdy and wants him to be behind bars. And she compels her father to send Anand to Jail. Meanwhile, the maverick son of an underworld Don falls for Shalini and expresses his desire to marry her. The Don's family barges into Police Commissioner's residence and forces Shalini and her father for this marriage. The Police Commissioner then goes to Anand's residence and requests for protection to his daughter. Shalini will be forced to live for a month in Anand's house and how a smart Anand intelligently solves this problem and vanquishes the villains form the rest of the story.

Ganesh has worked to get a good physique for the role and as usual his dialogues are the main stay of the film. Ramya looks extremely good in songs. Veterans like Avinash, Vinaya Prakash look wasted. The villain's group led by Mukesh Rishi is passable.

Mano Murthy's two tunes are good, but picturisation of these songs are just okay. Shekhar Chandru's camera work is pleasant.

Bombaat is an ordinary film and can appeal to you only if you are an ardent fan of Ganesh or Ramya.
