Kurukshetra Malayalam Movie

Earlier announced as Kargil and later re-named Kurukshetra, this is commando-turned-director Major Ravi's third film, the other two being Keerthichakra and Mission 90 Days. Kurukshetra is considered by many as a sequel to Keerthichakra, especially since lead actor Mohanlal plays a character named Mahadevan in both the films. But the makers have clarified that though the character is the same in both the films, in the first as Major Mahadevan and now as Colonel Mahadevan, the film is not a sequel.

Kurukshetra is based on the Kargil War of 1999, fought between India and Pakistan. Colonel Mahadevan, who leads the army unit posted at Kargil, has as his mission the re-capturing of Indian territory that had earlier been run over by the enemy. Mahadevan, a brave and patriotic soldier who has courage as well as intelligence, leads his men to victory.

The film is significant in that it not only zooms in on action on the war-front, but also portrays soldiers as human beings, with real human emotions. The film also takes a close look at the families of those fighting at the front. While stirring patriotic fervour in us, the film is also critical of war.

Major Ravi has made the film drawing deeply from his first hand experience in the army. Film-lovers who had welcomed his Keerthichakra are eagerly waiting for the release of Kurukshetra, slated to hit screens on October 01.
