Critics:
There is no escape from boredom culminating from Balayya's hyper acting and poor direction.

Well nothing has changed though there has been a lot of publicity created to push this movie as a great change of image for Balakrishna. The melodrama, long dialogs, and longer fights are still there.

And Ballaya's acting still doesn't look real. Mediocrity creeps in effortlessly in to Mitrudu too soon. And after that it slips below mediocrity. A better and fitter looking Balakrishna has chosen a director that has less creativity, gives a damn for logic in the building of sequences, and believes strongly in astrology.

There is a bank robbery scene for instance, where the robbers are ready to shoot whoever they think is offering any kind of distraction or resistance in their operation. Our hero walks right in the middle, though four or five robbers have guns and can shoot him. But for some reason they don't. The robbers have already shot a security person and why they don't shoot the hero, only the director can answer that. Only one robber shoots and misses (had to).

Couldn't the director think something better? Couldn't the hero have used some convincing plan to overpower the robbers? In another scene, the hero bleeding profusely from an accident (with a truck not a cycle) bashes up countless number of strong and heavily armed baddies. Come on, even the front benchers find it hard to swallow.

Some characters, including the central character, look totally unreal. Consummate actors like Chandramohan act their part, but their good works get over shadowed by the fast moving and convoluted story.

Of course, fans of Balakrishna are treated with the trademark Nandamuri charisma and machismo. Naturally gifted with the talent of being macho, Balakrishna impresses with his macho expressions. Social relevance is also another aspect of the movie that cannot be overlooked. The director deserves good credit there.

Mitrudu upholds some good values that our culture endorses. And there are a few heart rending scenes that makes this movie worth watching once. Mani Sharma's music is good. But there is no escape from boredom culminating from Balayya's hyper acting and poor direction.
