Chaalis Chauraasi Hindi Movie

Step brother of the current comedy king Rohit Shetty, Hriday Shetty finally hits the marquee with his own situational comedy Chaalis Chaurasi. Now whether he too sets the cash registers ringing with his comedy or not remains to be seen.

Pankaj Suri (Naseeruddin Shah), Shakti (Ravi Kissen), Bobby (Atul Kulkarni) and Pinto (Kay Kay Menon) are all small time criminals. Pretending to be cops, they go onto raid a fake currency manufacturing unit that'll earn them a staggering 20 crores. However, in their master plan of sorts, they goof up at one thing. They actually escape in a real police van making their attire and fake ammunitions all the more realistic and the problem arises when they meet a real cop and a task to encounter Bisleri (Zakir Hussain). Whether they conjure enough daring to go through the task and live the dreams of becoming millionaires or not follows through the rest of the plot.

Despite having dismal publicity of garish songs that fail to please the audience, Chaalis Chaurasi comes as a pleasant surprise. It has great comic-timing between the actors keeping the audience glued to their seats. What works best for the film are the performances. Hriday Shetty keeps at least one area secured by roping some of the most renowned actors of the field. Naseeruddin Shah as the professor turned driver, Ravi Kissen as the drug dealer, Atul Kulkarni as the wannabe singer turned Escort manager and Kay Kay Menon as the car thief do great justice to their respective roles.

However, what makes for a tedious watch is the narration. All through the first half and well in to the second half of Chaalis Chauraasi, the story is neck deep in to flashback. It only results in it all being unfold later, making it even more uninteresting. Moreover, some of the sequences are too long and lose focus from the plot.

The songs except the remix of Hawa Hawa are all needless and tackily shot. Dialogues are hilarious and impressive and add to the comic timing of the actors.

Over all, Chaalis Chaurasi makes for an interesting one time watch.
