Mumbai, Sep 17 (IANS) Film director Gurinder Chadha, a Briton of Indian origin, is excited about travelling to Pakistan. Islamabad has cleared her "Bride & Prejudice".

Gurinder says her film is as Indian and British as she herself is.

"It's a balanced combination that has forged a new Indian as well as British identity for millions of likeminded NRIs (non-resident Indians) around the world," Gurinder told IANS from London.

She said that attending the screening at Pakistan was extra special to her.

"After all, my ancestors hail from Dariyala Jahlib, 30 km from Jhelum and Rawalpindi. Also, I love the way people speak Punjabi in Pakistan. It is like my grandmother and mum ... a kind of Pindi-esque London version of Punjabi, quite different from the one spoken in India."

Aishwarya Rai, who plays the protagonist in "Bride & Prejudice", is popular in Pakistan and Gurinder is keen that the actress attends the screening there.

"Of course she should attend. Both countries are inextricably linked and the more cultural and political connections, the better."

The film is still a big hit in Australia and the director says she's really pleased with its wide reach.

"For a Hindi-style movie, 'Bride & Prejudice' kicked ass. It has made something like $60 million globally and is still counting."
