Salman plays choreographer in Hollywood flick 'Marigold'

New Delhi, Aug 6 (IANS) Macho man Salman Khan plays choreographer in his first-ever Hollywood project, "Marigold - An Adventure in India", a musical romantic comedy that releases this week, following on the success of his super caper "Partner".

The film, with a mixed cast and crew, focuses on a young American woman who travels to India to make a film, but destiny has something else in store for her. US-based director Willard Carroll's behind-the-scene story is for the American audiences who, he feels, are not well informed on Bollywood.

The love story goes like this:

American actress Marigold Lexton (Ali Later) comes to India with no luggage and a bad attitude to shoot for her low-budget Hollywood movie, but it falls apart. Consequently she finds herself cast in a small role in a Bollywood musical.

But there, too, she has to face disappointment because after several attempts she is not able to perfect the steps. Eager to prove herself, Marigold seeks help from Prem (Salman Khan), the film's choreographer. Under his guidance she experiences renewed confidence and a growing love for Prem.

Marigold soon discovers that Prem not only has a family but is also committed to a beautiful Indian girl, Janvi (Nandana Sen), chosen by his family. And very soon, he is going to marry her.

Unable to deal with this, an angry Marigold travels to Prem's family estate. But she is sent back by Janvi, who confesses that Prem doesn't love her and never will.

Another complication arrives in the form of Marigold's boyfriend, Barry (Ian Bohen). He finds out that Marigold is emotionally drained but still very much in love with Prem.

After a sequence of events love triumphs!

Marigold and Prem are brought together and Janvi and Barry embark upon a romantic journey of their own.

Made in English, the film is dubbed in Hindi and is meant for the multiplex audience in India. Many Bollywood filmmakers have made an attempt to pit Indian actors against Hollywood beauties, but so far none of them has been successful except Aamir Khan. He was seen with Rachel Shelley in the Oscar-nominated "Lagaan", which struck gold at the box office.

The film's music, composed by the successful composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, is so, so. Salman's presence and the curiosity to see him in his first Hollywood venture may pull in the crowd.
