Be it telling the tale of our freedom struggle or celebrating India 's Independence, Bollywood has been playing it's part beautifully since many a years.


So, as we gear up to enter yet another year of freedom, let's take a look at a few stars who have played freedom fighters in Bollywood movies....




Ajay Devgn


More than seven films have been made on the life of the legendary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh.


But out of the stars who got a chance to play the political hero, our favourite is Ajay Devgn.


He played the young leader in The Legend of Bhagat Singh. Not only did he looked convincing but played his part with utmost dedication.

Aamir Khan


Mr.Perfectionist, Aamir Khan is known for doing films that are socially relevant and shed light on important issues and history.


In Mangal Pandey, The Rising, the star played the title role of Mangal Pandey, an Indian soldier, who dared to rebel against the Britishers during the Revolt of 1857.


Aamir also played Bhagat Singh in Rang De Basanti.




Paresh Rawal


When prolific actor Paresh Rawal played Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel in the biopic on the leader, we couldn’t think of another star who could have done it better than him.


The film was Sardar, which highlighted the prominent events leading to India’s Independence including Quit India Movement and Satyagraha movement.




Sachin Khedekar


Marathi actor, Sachin played Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in the biopic on the iconic freedom fighter titled Bose: The Forgotten Hero.


The movie was directed by Sham Benegal and talented actor Sachin left a mark with his power packed performance as the founder of Indian National Congress.




Sharman Joshi


The daring freedom fighter who played a key role in the murder of a British police officer J.P Saunders, Rajguru was played by Sharman Joshi in the film Rang De Basanti.


He was convicted and hanged in 1931 along with Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev.


Sharman was highly appreciated for playing the part with elan.

Rang De Basanti



Abhishek Bachchan


It was in Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Khelen Hum Jee Jaan Se that Abhishek Bachchan got a chance to play Sury Sen.


The film was based on the Chittagong uprising of 1930 and Surya Sen was a village school teacher, who actively participated in India’s freedom struggle by training a group of men and women in martial arts, bomb making and shooting.
