Sultan: What to expect other than Salman's robust avatar

Jun 27, 2016 Shweta Kulkarni

A film starring the Bhaijaan of Bollywood is essentially only about Salman Khan, Salman Khan, and Salman Khan!

However, in the forthcoming film Sultan, a sports drama revolving around a Haryanvi wrestler —Sultan Ali Khan, there is a lot more to look forward to than just his dominant persona in every frame.

Here are five things to expect from this year’s Eid release Sultan other than the much talked about Salman’s mind-boggling weight transformation…

Anushka Sharma’s Haryanvi punch

The Band Baaja Baarat girl has come a long way from being just the quintessential Punjabi girl. In the recent past, she has stunned us with some remarkable performances and now she is all set to pack a powerful punch in Sultan as Aarfa.

Like Salman, Anushka is also playing a Haryanvi wrestler in the film and has undergone rigorous training not just to master the moves of a wrestler, but also to perfect the Haryanvi accent. She has done all the wrestling in the film and was very adamant about not using any body doubles.

So obviously one can expect the feisty gal to deliver hard-core Haryanvi dialogues in the film along with knocking out some heavyweight wrestlers in the akhada.

Real time action

Given the fact that wrestling is a contact sport, it was impossible for director Ali Abbas Zafar to use any sort of cables or other safety equipment to protect the actors from getting injured while shooting the action sequences.

Plus, like Anushka even Salman refused to use any body doubles in the film. In fact, as per reports, all the action in the ring involves real wrestlers and real-time wrestling bouts.

The director has even roped in acclaimed MMA fighter Tyron Woodley to fight opposite Salman in the film.

Glimpses of UP, Haryana, and Delhi

The trailers of Sultan have already given us a vague idea about its setting through some beautifully captured montages.

The film is largely shot on-location and while a major chunk of the film is shot in Uttar Pradesh, in and around Morna area in Muzaffarnagar, Sultan is also shot at Rewari in Haryana.

Rewari Steam Locomotive Shed is the only surviving steam loco shed in India, housing some of India's last surviving steam locomotives. Ali Abbas has also shot an amazing sequence with Bhaijaan and one of the antique steam engines for the film here.

Sultan also features some sequences shot around the 360-year-old Jama Masjid of Delhi.

The coach — Randeep Hooda

Randeep Hooda has been scaling new heights in his acting career and it won’t be a surprise to yet again see him deliver a stellar performance.

Randeep plays a hep coach in the film and has supposedly taught Salman all the Mixed Martial Arts that he learned while shooting for his last film Do Lafzon Ki Kahani.

Looks like the Hooda boy is going to be in the full-on-action mode in Sultan. as well.

Chemistry between Salman and Anushka

Above all the expectations, to see Salman and Anushka share the screen space for the first time is exciting. The love story between the two wrestlers is quite unusual and interesting.

And looking at the trailers one can expect some dhamakedar chemistry between the two.
