In the world of make-belief, gossip, rumours there lives a man who refuses to accept anything that he hasn't experienced, witnessed or seen. How would the world react to such a person, who actually rejects anything that he hasn't come in close contacts with?
Raje Bauji (Sanjay Mishra) is a composed and content man living in a small house with an extended family. All is hunky dory in his life till an incident of misguided decision leads him to alter his perception about life. He takes a tough call - He decides that he would never believe what he has not learnt through his own experience. The only truth for him would be the truth of his life, the truth that has passed through the verifier of his senses. His relatives think of this as mid life crisis. His wife (Seema Pahwa) takes it on as another challenge. His boss is less forgiving - Bauji loses his job. But he gains a band of loyal followers, who came initially to mock him but found some substance in what he says - and are now his loyal students. How Bauji, despite all odds continues on his journey of gaining the ultimate experience of all things is what follows through the rest of the plot.
Directed by Rajat Kapoor, the film is far removed from any frivolity attached with a Bollywood film. It proceeds at a languid pace taking you on an evocative journey which actually leaves you with things to ponder on and introspect.
Aankhon Dekhi is one of the simplest stories in the recent time which is executed with equal simplicity that strikes a chord with the masses. The movie has a fair balance of humour and drama.
It won't be wrong to say that Aankhon Dekhi is a well made film on all fronts right from the plot, the setting to the performances everything is spot on. Though the film does run into loop at times courtesy the wafer-thin plot but it's the maker's strength and the exceptional performances of each and every character that keeps you engaged.
Cinematography by Rafey Mehmood is incredible. The way his camera romantises old Delhi with its old world charm in the dilapidating houses, the narrow grungy lanes is just fabulous. Music by Sagar Desai is equally compelling and evocative. It not only adds layers to the story but also lingers in your mind eventually growing on you.
Words aren't enough to praise the performances by Sanjay Mishra, Seema Pahwa, Rajat Kapoor himself and others. Each and every actor gets into the skin of their character and not only perfects the language but also the mannerisms.
In short, Aankhon Dekhi is a gem that touches your heart, moves you, makes you smile and leaves you with some food for thought.
