War Chod Na Yaar Hindi Movie
So far one has only seen dramatic depiction of wars between two perpetually warring nations India and Pakistan. There's always been a certain drama of a plausible nuclear threat, melodrama of the families of soldiers, patriotic speeches from every soldier at the border, lots of gun-firing, bomb explosions etc. involved in war movies including the likes of Border, LOC and so on. Breaking the clut of such films comes debutant director Faraz Haidar with a comedy on the perennial war between India and Pakistan. Does it work? Let's find out.
Journalist Rutt Dutta (Soha Ali Khan) gets informed by a minister (Dalip Tahil) that there will be a war between the two nations after two days and she is asked to pre-record his condolence/consoling message from the border only to be telecast once the war breaks out.
Her stint at the border helps her mingle with the battalion of Indian Soldiers which is headed by Captain Raj (Sharman Joshi). He makes her aware how cordial his relations are with the rival army which is headed by Captain Qureshi (Jaaved Jaafery). They get together on a game of cards and drinks, sitting across the border and discussing how their only job left is to hunt for food.
Debutant director Faraz Haider's concept is really innovative but sadly it lacks an experienced hand. The movie appears nothing but a comedy show skit gone wrong. None of the gags actually make you smile leave alone laugh.
Time and again the director also takes a serious turn and starts passing preachy messages how people from both countries don't want war and peace is the way to go. But neither do those messages touch you nor do the war scenes shake you.
Sharman Joshi and Jaaved Jaafery provide the much needed relief, the two share great screen presence and also lead to a few heartwarming scenes. Soha Ali Khan tries too hard to bring some weight to her character but courtesy bad writing, she gets wasted royally. Even her romantic track with Sharman Joshi is highly predictable and hence annoying.
To sum it up, War Chhod Na Yaar is a highly unfunny war comedy and hence devoid of any reason to watch.
