Arjun-Kalimponge Sitaharan Bengali Movie

Arjun is definitely a path breaker and presents a new beginning for the sleuth films. But he definitely needs to fine-tune his art before he attempts the next for the series. May 5, 2013 By Anurima Das

The T.Sarkar productions of the Feluda series fame, yet again comes up with the first of another sleuth series. This time it is the Arjun series by distinguished author Samaresh Majumdar. The ride which had already been successful with the Bomkesh, feluda and the Khokababu series on screen is all set to be invigorated and discovered anew with the adventures of this young sleuth Arjun. The debut of the series combines two popular adventure stories of Arjun 'Khunkharapi' and 'Kalimpongey Sitaharan'.

When Sita (Raya), the teenage daughter of Mr. Sen (Dipankar De) is brought back to Kalimpong on her father's orders a series of events follow and results into an adventure assignment for our young detective Arjun (Om) and his mentor Amol Shom (Sabyasachi Chakraborty). The reason for Sita's retun is of course personal and just a concern of a father, who wants to keep his daughter safe from boys. Least did he know that this simple return will turn serious every passing day and will finally result into a life threatening situation for them.

Arjun definitely lacks the sharpness in terms of the dialogues and screenplay. There are major loop holes in the film and director Prem Modi is unable to cover up the same with even the exciting storyline of Majumdar's original. Newcomer Om as Arjun displays potential but, is unable to impress in front of the remarkable actors. Sabyasachi as Amol is brilliant as always and somewhat reminisces his Feluda days on screen as the mentor of Arjun. Through the film one is again and again reminded of the brilliance of the sleuth films done before within the Bengali film paradigm. The director somehow misses the success markers and does not do justice even with the powerhouse actors. The beautiful locations of Kalimpong could have easily given way for a spine chilling, tensed and exciting adventure film, but nothing of that sort happens.

To summarize, director Prem Modi's Arjun is definitely a path breaker and presents a new beginning for the sleuth films. But he definitely needs to fine-tune his art before he attempts the next for the series.
