Alik Sukh Bengali Movie
When there is almost a dearth of good films and everyone aspires for a breather, Director duo Shiboprasad Mukhopadhyay and Nandita Roy pulls the curtain of Alik Sukh. Much before the release the film had already travelled to Cannes and much like their previous film; Alik Sukh brought back a strong message and handled the pre film publicity quite sensibly.
Doctor's have always been regarded synonymous to god. But like every other individual our saviors' are also human, and they have their own little world of truth and lies, own little world of happiness and sorrow. However, the society normally gets judgmental when it comes to a doctor and they are treated much above mortals. Alik Sukh deals with the story of one such diligent doctor, who fails to save a life and immediately becomes a villain for everyone.
Dr.Kingshuk Choudhury (Deb Shankar Haldar), a successful gynecologist falls into trouble a patient of his dies as he is unable to reach the hospital on time and attend to her. He was signing an agreement to buy a new flat and gift it to Rammani, his wife (Rituparna Sengupta) as he wanted to fulfill his dream of living separately from his parents, with his wife and son. But that fleeting decision nearly costs him his repute and his medical career is nearly shattered. This incident not only disturbs his professional life, but begins to haunt his personal life as well. His wife Rammani (Rituparna Sengupta), begins to feel the presence of the dead patient Sohini Sengupta. There begins a constant tussle at all levels, ranging from the practical logical real world to the worlds residing within humans.
Rituparna Sengupta is simple and plays the role of the doctor's wife quite remarkably. Her appearance and her persona both build a strong platform and deserve kudos. The two people without whom the film would not have stood the way it is apart from Rituparna, is of course Sohini Sengupta and Deb Shankar Haldar. With nuances perfected from the stage, they both set the platform for Alik Sukh. Meaningful music adds to the core value of the film and brings out the little nuances quite well. Detailing in the film is yet another factor that holds everything together.
To conclude, a film based on sentiments and emotions, Alik Sukh invades deeper within the human psyche and churns out the emotional nuances of being a doctor. Intricate details and fine tuned acting, makes this film a must watch.
