Director Veeru K. who made the touching love story "Aropranam" and the feel good "Pellivaramandi" seems to have lost his moorings. His latest Telugu presentation "Xtra" is a substandard offering.

Though he starts on a promising note by making a statement against suicides due to love, he meanders after that and the film goes from bad to worse and sometimes even below that.

The tale of a youth (Santhosh) who falls in love with his elderly teacher (Ruthika) could have been addressed in a decent fashion. But he uses it more to titillate by voyeuristic shots of her cleavage and pushes the issue of age-disparity under the carpet by just making the odd reference to it.

It is a pity to watch young actor Naveen in such an inconsequential role. The comedy track of Krishna Bhagwan and Brahmanandam evokes few laughs. Composers Bapu-Ramana re-mix old hits badly.

By choosing films like "Sorry Naaku Pellaiyindi" and "Xtra", it appears that Ruthika is vying for the sex-bomb slot.

The story is about Santhosh Singh a brat and his father (Chalapati Rao) who decides to enrol him in a residential college. The physical training teacher Krishna Rao is suspended for drinking during college hours and the principal replaces him with the glamorous Ruthika.

The boy falls hopelessly in love with her. She tries to discourage him. Failing to do so, she takes the help of her lover Navin to open Santhosh's eyes. All is well that ends well after that.

The film squanders the possibilities that the story offers.
