Watch Kolkata Calling if you are a die hard Ritwick Chakraborty fan. He is the only piece in the loosely set jigsaw puzzle, that will atleast make you feel happy about the money you would otherwise have wasted on the tickets of Kolkata Calling.

Kolkata streets. Stories of a few wannabe's. Ambitions. Failures. Helplessness. Everything and more is what Kolkata Calling is all about. An idea that is good is but not that acceptable when translated on screen. Mainak Bhowmick's Kolkata Calling is yet another Kolkata saga, but the question is what is so special about the film?

The answer is not a riddle that you have to solve after watching the film. Ranjan (kaushik Sen) is a photographer, who wants to shoot some reality and walks the streets of Kolkata to meet and greet them with his camera. These whomsoever it may concern are the youth of Kolkata, they represent the new Calcutta and are always experiencing unrest in their lives due to a lot of reason.

What went wrong with Mainak Bhowmick? After Mach Mishti More, how could he launch a Kolkata saga as poor and basic as Kolkata Calling? Kritika, Shuddyo and Samrat are the three stories that Ranjan's camera captures and tries to unfold in the backdrop of Kolkata. Men, claustrophobic families, crumbling ambitions, love etc reveals themselves through different pockets. But the representatives and their ways of representations does not impress.

At several points through Kolkata Calling you will be reminded of several films that have had prolonged influences on us and have dealt with the existence of a photographer and have narrated their distorted stories. So what is so different in the universe of Ranjan? How are his photographic subjects dissimilar to that of many others? There is no core take away in Kolkata Calling. Be it the story of a struggling actor, a drug addict or even the moody spoilt girl of an influential mother. Nothing seems to seep out of the film. Nothing seeps out into our existence.

To summarise, watch Kolkata Calling if you are a die hard Ritwick Chakraborty fan. He is the only piece in the loosely set jigsaw puzzle, that will atleast make you feel happy about the money you would otherwise have wasted on the tickets of Kolkata Calling.
