Critics:
Sajarur Kanta is certainly not a promising adaptation of a Byomkesh novel and does not even come close to any of the recent Byomkesh films.

A thriller without any thrills, murders without any chills. Sajarur Kanta by director Saibal Mitra is one of the most ordinary version of a thriller, that is nothing worth wasting your time for. A screen adaptation of Saradindu Bandhapadhayay's story of the same name. Sanjarur Kanta unfolds the story of a failed marriage that runs parallel to the story of episodic murders.

It begins with the murder of a beggar, but the peculiarity lies within the murder weapon. Which is a porcupine thorn. Byomkesh Bakshi sets out to find answers and wants to know the murderer's motif and his choice of weapon. Deepa (Konkona Sen Sharma) is a lead actress of a theatre group, her marriage gets arranged to a wealthy Debashis.

Deepa refuses to surrender to the marriage as she is in love with someone else. Only understanding prevails between the couple, but not love. Both Konkana and Indraneil as Deepa and Debashis make for a good pair. But definitely without a romantic existence.

Actor Dhritimaan Chatterjee plays Byomkesh and is certainly not promising. He is an older Byomkesh, compared to the past Byomkesh Bakshi's. All the actors look good and act relevant in their roles. Director Saibal Mitra has tried to do many things to this Byomkesh episode. But Sajarur Kanta will leave more questions at the end than you would actually have not come across while reading Saradindu's version.

Sajarur Kanta is certainly not a promising adaptation of a Byomkesh novel and does not even come close to any of the recent Byomkesh films. Disappointing as it might be, watch Sanjarur Kanta only for the actors.
