Karan Kumar (KK) is a 51-year-old erstwhile ''No. 1 Star of Bollywood'', who was once called ''King of Bollywood'', a nickname that has stuck with him. And has led him to having grandiose notions about himself. But KK is now nothing more than a shadow of his former self. He is a faded, but a likable hammy actor, who is past his ''sell-by'' date. KK ruled the Bollywood roost at a time when stars cultivated larger than life enigmatic personas.

KK has a giant sized ego and believes that he is invincible. When his career starts sliding downwards, his first reaction to the situation is that of denial. When no offers come his way, he believes that it is because films have become too small

to accommodate a great star like him. Even though deep down, he is wracked by self-doubt, and in his private unguarded moments he is sad and helpless.Contrary to all this, in public he is always a STAR.

Other characters.

KK Family

Mandira

A former star and attractive wife of KK, Mandira's designer outfits always seem to be crying out loud for lost stardom.

Rahul

He can run miles to escape from his dad's attempts at making him a star. KK's son Rahul is a simple guy who hates the facade which most guys in Bollywood seem to be wearing.

Crystal Chaurasia

A 24-year-old British documentary filmmaker of 1/4th Indian origin. She comes to Mumbai from the UK, to do a documentary on KK's life and times, backed by The International Film Commission. Crystal is an attractive but shy and complex young women who grew up on a diet of Bollywood films. In India and in Bollywood, Crystal finds her wildest dreams coming true.

Ratnesh a.k.a. Ratty

A Bollywood (b)rat, who's always on the mobile fixing up god-knows-which programmes and movie schedules for KK. Although a shrewd secretary, he is also a true companion for KK.

Dinki

She is Don Salimbhai's moll. A pretty but tarty looking young Indian girl, who is chosen as the heroine in KK's movie.

Madhu

A saucer-eyed buxom heroine from South India, she comes as Dinky's replacement in the movie and is cast opposite KK.

Salimbhai

He is a Mumbai underworld Don, who is currently on the run, with the Mumbai Police, Interpol and rival gangs giving him a tough time. He is part-financing KK's movie, and in return extracts his pound of flesh.

Astrologer

He is KK's saffron-clad guru and guide. KK turns to him for solutions to his complex financial and creative problems.

Bahadur

He is always at KK's beck and call. He takes care of KK's house, office, and of course KK.

Sunny

He is a new generation Assistant Director. Sadly, he has no say in the proceedings of the film in spite of his 'fresh' ideas. This frustrates him no end, but he has no choice.
