The Huntsman: Winter's War English Movie

Feature Film | 2016 | UA | Action, Adventure, Drama, Fantasy
Critics:
Pointless and unoriginal, the tale of the Huntsman attempts to cash in on the Snow White fairy tale and falls. Big stars like Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Jessica Chastain and Emily Blunt together cannot save this silly tale.

I loved the creepily fabulous magical mirror from Charlize Theron's Snow White. The special effects in that film were spectacular even though the film was cringeworthy. Usually sequels and prequels are a stretch and how far can one push the story of Snow White when good has won and evil has been vanquished? By a threatening voice that announces, 'Evil doesn't really die!' and by introducing a sister to the evil queen who is not evil. You can see where the story is going from a mile away. But you watch evil queen Ravenna break her sister's heart by killing her baby and turning her into evil.

Plausible until you see the animated film Frozen come alive. Looks like there is paucity of thought from here onwards. The kidnapping of kids is as old as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, turning them into mercenaries too. Then you wonder who the are kings getting defeated. Aren't all the lands south of the cold mountain of the Frozen style castle, under Snow White? Don't forget the little fire-fly like creatures, the goblins - everything is so familiar and trite. The romance between Chris Hemsworth and Jessica Chastain is a huge cliche. The action scenes, the comedy with the dwarfs is just as bad, and you begin to wonder why these movies are still getting made

It's 96 minutes of groanworthy story-telling later you realise the filmmakers still think you are going to watch yet another 'Evil doesn't die' sequel. You roll your eyes and say a little prayer that this movie is over.
