Horror is the latest fad in Tamil cinema and a lot of wannabe horror movies are hitting the marquee week after week. The latest to join the list is Strawberry, which marks the directorial debut of popular lyricist Pa. Vijay and is distributed by K'town's most productive distribution banner Sri Thenandal Films, known for interesting choice of films.

Pa. Vijay's Strawberry has everything that you will consider 'cliche' in a horror movie setting. A fluffy doll, tantric rituals conducted by a holy person, a family in distress, a badass villain in danger and a hero to save get satisfy the desire of the 'ghost'. This set of ideal stereotypes doesn't end at the story level. It seeps through the entire film with a horrible share of poorly conceived scenes.

The pathetic graphics work, unbearable lip sync of the supporting cast, jarring background score make the movie-watching experience horrendous than the makers intended it to be through the film.

Pa Vijay has taken inspiration from a real life incident of a school kid who was run over by the rear wheels of a bus when she fell into the hole on the floor. It shook the entire country and called out for more safety measures to be implemented. Pa Vijay has decided to bank on those sentiments instead of creating a poignant story around the incident. There are many scenes where needless preaching overrides the narrative logic, making it a pain in the neck for audiences.

Revealing the basic details of the plot would make the film unwatchable and utterly predictable. Not that Strawberry is a must watch film from the stables of horror genre in Tamil cinema. But still.
