Feature Film | 2015
Critics:
There are no mundane sentiments. No forcing you to sympathize with the dying. Rather Anubrata Bhalo Acho? is a matter of fact narrative. Yes! We all live to die one day, in between it is all about this wait and answering to yourself 'bhalo achi ami'.

We have been hearing many say, "he died peacefully in sleep". What is really peaceful? To simply slip into the other realm in sleep or to slowly make the passage through pain. But are there other ways of seeing death too? Can life make you see death eye to eye even at your waking hours? Director Partha Sen's Anubrata Bhalo Acho? Explores death through varied moments. Expresses dying once as a ordinary consequence, once as a painful wait and once as a miserable living.

Anubrata (Ritwick Chakraborty) is fighting with life everyday as he waits for life to fight back and bring his wife to normalcy. A series of chemo, medicines and hospital visits everyday has snatched the best from his life yet he says it is vital to live. His pace is slow and tired. His life is that of a wait. Yet he consoles his wife Neeta (Debleena Dutta) and makes her believe that every passing day she is getting better and beautiful.

Jaya (Swastika Mukherjee) on the other hand is suddenly stuck by a reality of uncertainty, as her husband is admitted to the hospital with a lung ailment. She is suddenly faced with a loneliness that Anubrata has already been facing for years now. They cross path in the hospital when both of them are fighting their personal karma wars of life and death.

The film is short, but the long stretch of wait is strong and stretched. There are moments to make you feel this is it! While there are moments which will again set you on track and say, life is indeed to long and there is hope too. It is about the experience that the director has brought on screen through the medley of music and a story that he never meant to dramatize.

Debleena Dutta is too natural and portrays the trauma of a terminally ill quite significantly. Ritwick Chakraborty & Swastika Mukherjee never lets you complain.

There are no mundane sentiments. No forcing you to sympathize with the dying. Rather Anubrata Bhalo Acho? is a matter of fact narrative. Yes! We all live to die one day, in between it is all about this wait and answering to yourself 'bhalo achi ami'.Watch Anubrata Bhalo Acho? to walk that thin line between death and life. But remember it will be a casual walk.
