This is meat-and-potatoes film-making, but if you aren’t averse to a lot of scenes with tough guys gritting their teeth, The Finest Hours is a reasonably engaging 120-odd minutes. The Finest Hours, an exercise in stoic, square-jawed film-making.

Disney’s new film The Finest Hours pretty much ticks off this checklist of clichés, but is still a fairly enjoyable yarn. The Finest Hours deserved a far less talky movie than it presently is. But it’s ultimately a Disney movie, and a sentimental one.
