Kattapanayile Hrithik Roshan Malayalam Movie
A simpleton of Kattappana aspires otherworldly stardom in Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan. We see that when he lace up a blue Jeans and white shirt through the mirror, with the poster of "Kaho Naa Pyar Hai" glancing near.
What separates him, and his love for cinema is this loud music coming from an old knob-radio. Regardless, the movie makes it loud and clear Kichu's aspirations is the same as you and me. Do I resemble Hrithik? He yells loudly to all of Kattappana. Of, course. Sans six pack. Sans good looks. Everything you is written Kattappana's Rithwik Roshan, rest assured.
As much funny as that proposition may sound, we all have that Travis Bickle moment once or twice in life don't we? Good thing then, Nadirshah's bolt-from-the-blue showbiz satire brings parity especially when we are plagued by a rare financial crisis. We are averse to the color Black as for both movie stars and money. And, let alone become a star one could barely make ends meet with all this chaos around.
What about people in the hamlet with big ambitions? It's for a reason the hero of this film face predicaments, for even the best of them have had their fair share. Of late, even the likes of Randeep Hooda have confessed he had to go the fringes to make it big in showbiz. Which is to say, it won't be a typographical error if this was titled Dr. Kattappana: How I learned to fight frenemies of Kattappana and started loving films over and over.
Like Udayananu Tharam before it - you would be hard pressed to find the inside references in Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan. That production controller, for instance, fleets into Kichu's life with all manner of gait. "I am not angry" he says. "It is just me."
Or, the character of Prayaga Martin which is a variation from the usual cutie-pie heroine. Kichu's love for her appears naive yet ambitious. But, being a girl with modern sensibilities she doesn't quite understand neither naivete nor ambition.
In one scene, he breaks into a restaurant and fumes at her for having dated with somebody else. What can one do when he is robbed off both ambition and romance? No Hrithik lookalike six pack or handsome face would help even as Vishnu Unnikrishnan hits just the right nodes w.r.t dramatics. Both in terms of scripting as well as acting, this movie is well executed.
And, it elevates Nadirshah's deft touch for ensemble drama to a level above. His comic timing is impetuous, but taste for drama is something new. It helps he has thespians Siddique, Salim Kumar, Kalabhavan Shajon for company. Or, the always likeable Saiju Wilson, Prayaga Martin, and Dharamjan for that matter. We know Siddique and Salim Kumar could act. But, Dharmajan's powerful performance as Kichu's sidekick is anything unlike we have seen all his career. The movie is anything unlike we may have seen, barring the odd cliche, sans the "too clever for its own good" climax. It is unlikely you will complain about this movie. It gives us food for thought and of course belly laughs.
For hours I wondered what is in the title rhyme. Perhaps I have explained the question myself. And, Maybe Vishnu Unnikrishnan's commitment brings clarity of thought and nuance. They do a fourth-wall-break just at the end to thank us for coming in to the theater. My turn: Thanks for the entertainment, sir.
