Bhagmathi is an engaging thriller with good horror and interesting twists at regular intervals. Even though it has a familiar plot and is dragged at times, the movie is fairly good and engages the audience tuntilthe end.

Chanchala (Anushka) is an IAS Officer and is the Personal Secretary of Eeshwar Prasad (Jayaram), a honest Union Minister. She is sent to jail in a case and later to pull the Minister down, Some powers in Central government send CBI to Chanchala to testify against him. She is moved to a Bungalow for a Secret Investigation where she is haunted by the ghost of Bhagmathi. Who is Bhaagamathie and Why is Chanchala behind bars forms the rest of the story.

Anushka is excellent in the roles of Chanchala and Bhagmathi. Her Screen Presence is amazing and the performance is really convincing. Malayali Actor Jayaram shines in a crucial role. Asha Sharath as CBI Officer, Murali Sharma as ACP, and Unni Mukundan as Shakthi are okay in supporting roles. Prabhas Seenu, Dhanraj, Vidyullekha Raman evoked some laughs here and there as funny constables.

The background score by Thaman is extraordinary and the lone song in the film is average. The action and thrills are good while Madhi's camera work enhances the mood of the film. Editing could have been better in the first half and the production values are grand.

Director Ashok Projected the film as Horror film but it is more of a Political Drama. He weaved the story with Plenty of thrills with supernatural elements and a small love story which is connected with an ongoing Political Conspiracy. The first half of the film starts slow but once Anushka enters Bhagmathi Bungalow, the thrills are interesting. But the story turns predictable once the actual plot is revealed. The screenplay is interesting as the dots are connected well in the second half and the climax worked out well.

Finally, Bhagmathi is an engaging thriller with good horror and interesting twists at regular intervals. Even though it has a familiar plot and is dragged at times, the movie is fairly good and engages the audience until the end.
