Yet another action movie from mohanalal but this time from K Madhu who had given Mohanlal some of his earliest hits. After a series of action thrillers like 'Praja',Onnaman and Thandavam, it seems that even K.Madhu stamp can not stop people presuming that film is going to be like the above said ones. Mohanlal is passable as Jimmy, a character that suits his popular image these days. But maybe even he is fed up of such roles, since he seems to have a rather distracted, detached look occasionally. Nagma as Nayana Pillai is OK, but her dialogue delivery is a bit awkward. Navya Nair is miscasted as mohanlal's lover. Saikumar has done a wonderful job as Kora, while Vijayaraghavan is good as Paulose. The songs, tuned by M.G.Sreekumar are just OK. However, 'Chathurangam' is a far better movie than Lal's recent releases. Even the character that Mohanlal essays is not the usual super-human character that he has been doing for quite some time. An average movie, might make Mohanlal fans happy.

Story Line

Attiprakkal Jimmy is a young wrestler from Kottayam, who is associated with the Keraladesham Congress Party and is anticipating a seat in the next assembly elections. Minister Kora takes a special liking for Jimmy and considers him his lieutenant and political heir. Jimmy also has friends like Thommy (a liquor baron), Maaththan Cheththimattam (a young political aspirant) and others. Paulose (the State Home Minister) who leads the rival faction is always at loggerheads with Kora and very often Jimmy steps in to humble Paulose and his men. At this juncture, a young lady named Nayana Pillai, enters the scene as the new Superintendent of Police. Nayana and Jimmy begin to constantly clash with each other. When Jimmy gets engaged to Sherin, he does not realize that this alliance was part of a plot engineered by Kora. Kora wants to use Jimmy to persuade Sherin's father Mathew Verghese to refrain from giving a statement in court against him. However, the ever-loyal Jimmy agrees to do as Kora asks. But when the plan backfires and Mathew Verghese gets murdered, things begin to take a turn for the worse. Suddenly, Jimmy's world is turned upside down, when he finds Kora joining hands with his arch rival Paulose! With events getting out of control, Jimmy seems to be fighting a losing battle... until the climax changes everything!
