My Story Malayalam Movie
It's not an unusual love story, but a low intensity romantic tale with a decent touch by a debutant director. "My Story" has been given all the stylish ingredients by Roshni Dinaker minimising the drama quotient. The attempt for offering freshness in the treatment is apparent by the filmmaker though Shankar Ramakrishnan's screenplay struggles to shy away from trite elements. His dialogues have metaphoric embellishments and it fits well in romantic milieu.
Jayakrishnan aka Jay, played by Prithviraj, is an aspiring actor, who gets an opportunity in director Williams' (Manoj. K. Jayan) new film. When the crew reaches Portugal for shooting, Jay meets his heroine in the movie, Thara. Soon Jay realises that Thara is fed up with her acting career as his father Vishwam (Manianpillai Raju) is a greedy man and he is trying to get her marry off to a business tycoon and producer of her film, David Eeppan (Ganesh Venkatraman). She finds a rescuer in innocent Jay from her mundane life. Thara manages to run away with Jay from Lisbon. Their journey marks the beginning of new changes in the life of Thara and Jay.
Thara seeks an escape from the clutches of David and she gets an apt companion in Jay, who inadvertently becomes part of her plan. The twist in the tale by revealing different shades of the characters struggles a tad to fit into the content.
Parvathy in her vibrant dual role sustains the exuberance in "My Story". She has emphatically performed in both roles, which crave for freedom. Ironically, Thara and her daughter yearn to break the shackles of emotional confinement. Prithviraj stands tall in the portrayal of gullible Jay and he is stupendously effortless in both the life stages of the character.
It's a rare occasion you get to witness the cinematography and the editing vying for excellence. The visuals of Dudley and Vinod Perumal are top notch while Priyank Prem Kumar's editing gives a new dimension to the treatment.
"My Story" certainly has the elements of the run-of-the-mill romantic dramas. Notably, Prithviraj and Parvathy act as the cornerstones of the plot. The film drums up ample support from its lead pairs and the scenic locales of Portugal, covering up the thin layer of intensity in the romance.
