Director Gireesh Mano offers an easy watch in "Lavakusha" hinging on his lead actors Neeraj Madhav and Aju Varghese. At a glance, the presence of an interesting combo is a positive factor for Gireesh. Besides, the expectation mounts with the addition of an actor like Biju Menon. Well, the director partially scores in his efforts to present a comedy thriller and the blame falls on the fragile script. It would be an imprecise judgement if you expected the antics of this lead combo would leave you in splits. The premise is apt for humorous milieu, but it calls for consistency and more creative effort from a writer.

Two dim-witted youngsters hog the center stage in "Lavakusha" and thus there is no paucity for absurdities. The characters, enacted by Neeraj Madhav and Aju Varghese, do not have specific names in the film. But they would like to be addressed as Lava and Kusha respectively. In a tale sans logic, there is no room for further queries. Neeraj Madhav makes his debut as a scenarist in the movie and he has packed it with twists by conveniently ignoring the rationale behind the coincidences.

Though Biju Menon as Joy Kappan has an interesting entry, the inane portrayal of events takes away the sheen of the character. He has done a neat job while everything around him tumbles and the action remains to be a make-belief. In that sense, Gireesh Mano deliberately shuns clarifications in the content. The filmmaker painstakingly keeps the pace of the film intact with the aid of blaring BGM by Gopi Sundar. The protagonists' association with Joy Kappan and the mysterious gold smuggling case are able to provide a tad interesting moments.

The absence of a specific female lead is compensated by Deepti Sati as Sheethal. But she provides disappointment except in a scene. Neeraj and Aju hardly have anything worth to emote in their scenes. With no trace of their family background, their characters appear as carefree youths. The introduction of twists whittles the burden of their run-of-the-mill slapstick comedy.

Prakash Velayudhan's cinematography engenders the mood of the film from the outset, but the editing by Johnkutty demands another revision. "Lavakusha" is a mediocre attempt as it fails to create the genuine humor you expect from Neeraj Madhav-Aju Varghese combo.
