Cine goers were looking forward to the Audithya-Ramya starrer "Aadi" for two reasons - the film had been made by actor-producer Jai Jagadish known for his family-oriented breezy entertainers and the hero, Audithya, had proved his acting abilities in his first film "Love", directed by his father S.V. Rajendra Singh Babu.

However, the film has belied the high expectations it had raised.

Though "Aadi" is a simple love story the director has chosen a different narrative path. It is surprising that an experienced producer like Jai Jagadish chose action director M.S. Ramesh to direct a love story. The confusion of the director is apparent throughout the film.

Audithya plays a middle-class youth based in Mysore city. Almost written off by his advocate father, but pampered by his mother, he leaves his house promising to return only after he has achieved something in life. He comes to Bangalore, where he meets Ramya and falls in love with her. He then joins the firm of a person called Udayachandar.

Ramya is the daughter of Udayachandar, but Audithya is unaware of this.

Udayachandar is targeted by a rival businessman, Suryakanth. Audithya saves his boss many a time. He then comes to know that Ramya is Udayachandar's daughter and that her marriage has been arranged with another colleague. The rest of the story is about how this crisis is resolved.

The first half of the film is a big drag. There are many sequences that do not jell and Ramesh's dialogues are ordinary and lack punch.

The good performance of Audithya and Ramya are the redeeming feature of the film. Talented actors like Rangayana Raghu and Sathyajith are wasted in insignificant roles.

Guru Kiran's music is another weak point in the film, barring one song. The choreography is also nothing to speak about.

If the director had given some thought to the narration and worked out a tight script, the film could have appealed to the youth.
