Feature Film | 2018
Critics:
Kaasi is a disappointing Village drama which is messed up by some wayward execution and unnecessary subplots.

Bharat (Vijay Anthony) is a reputed doctor in the United States living with his adopted parents. He heads to his village, Kancherlapalem in search of his actual parents after coming to know the truth about his life. After a point of time, he finds out about his mother but the whereabouts of his dad are left mysterious. Rest is all about how he finds his father.

Vijay Anthony is becoming monotonous with routine expressions and acting in every film of his released in the recent times. He has done different characters in the film and there is no much variation. Anjali is wasted in a limited role. Yogi Babu evokes some laughs here and there. Nasser and Jayaprakash are good. The others are mostly Tamil artistes.

The first half of the film is boring after the interesting first 10 minutes. The second half is a bit better but then the director had embedded three sub-stories of which two are not at all related to the actual story. There are some decent moments in those sub-stories but they do not help the actual cause. Several scenes are dragged boring the audience. A single flashback, strong characterizations, and emotional connect would have worked big time but it is not the case with Kaasi.

Director Udayanidhi picked up a decent story but narrated it confusingly. Subplots were added to make the film more complicated which at the end bored the audience. Lack of depth ensured that the film does not engross the audience. Music by Vijay Anthony is nothing great but his background score was impressive. Camera work is good while the Production Values are okay. Editing should have been a lot better throughout the film.

Finally, Kaasi is a disappointing Village drama which is messed up by some wayward execution and unnecessary subplots.
