Bhupathi (Prakash Raj) is a powerful don who commands a region. He and his wife (Jayasudha) are succumbed to serious head injuries when they are attacked by some goons during a Temple Visit. His Three Sons (Arvind Swamy, Simbu, and Arun Vijay) are after Chinnappa who they feel is behind the attack. They finish off his son-in-law while the rift is going on, Bhupathi suddenly passes away in sleep due to cardiac arrest. That give rise to family feud between the brothers to occupy his throne. What happens rest in the feud and their revenge forms the rest.

Arvind Swamy, Simbu, Arun Vijay, and Vijay Sethupathi have equal scope in the film and they have delivered their best. Vijay Sethupati as a funny cop, Arvind Swamy as a wicked man, Simbu with his own class and Arun Vijay as classy yet deadly Dubai Businessman are good. Even though Vijay Sethupathi's role appeared inconsequential at the start, his importance was showcased in the climax. Jayasudha, Jyothika, Aditi Rao Hydari, Aishwarya Rajesh, and Dayana are the lead ladies in the film but have limited scope. Jyothika is the best of the lot while Aditi Rao Hydari is totally unnecessary.

Nawab has a familiar story but an excellent narration. Mani Ratnam who is out of form for a long time finally made a comeback with this film. It is astonishing how he crafted such a powerful film with a decent run time and giving equal scope to all the heroes. On the flipside, we wish the plot had more depth, as the film stays on the surface. AR Rahman usually reserves his best for Mani Ratnam and in terms of the Background score, this is easily the best work of Rahman in the recent times. Santosh Sivan's camera work is excellent with his lighting and shot division. Editor Sreekar Prasad once again stamped his authority as one of the best in the country. Production Values are good.

The first half of the film is decent with much time going into the introduction of the character. The second half is where the story actually begins and the ace filmmaker managed to keep the audience interested with twists every now and then and a lot of drama. The climax is also good with interesting end credits in the form of an investigation Report. But then, there is no romance, song picturization or chemistry between anyone in the film-be it among brothers, couples or parents, and children which we normally expect from Mani Ratnam's films. Finally, despite its share of little flaws here and there, it is the best work of Mani Ratnam in the recent years. But the big question is if it will appeal to the Telugu audience.
