First come first served - this theory is proved right once again by BHARATCHANDRAN - IPS as it was the first film to be released for this Onam and is still doing the best business among the films that were released for the festive season - even though it has a stiff competition from NARAN among others. Kudos to Renji Panikker, Suresh Gopi & crew for putting up a splendid piece of work. It was worth the wait for his fans to see Suresh Gopi doing the role he does best - that of a fire-brand cop.

The narrative is fast paced. Even though there are a few shortcomings in Renji Panikker's debut offering as a director, the audience really does not seem to mind. Renji has taken a lot of responsibilities on his own shoulders as he has done the story, the screenplay, the dialogues, as well as production and direction.

BHARATCHANDRAN - IPS is the sequel to the box-office hit COMMISSIONER, and like all sequels, suffers from over-expectation. Coming out of the hall one could overhear people saying that the new release did not measure up to the mark of the original. But overall, the film has not done too badly for a sequel. As a matter of fact a complex in Cochin ran five shows in two halls in the initial days, before reverting to the customary routine of four shows a day.

The film lasts just over two hours, and if you want a relaxed evening at the theatre, Bharatchandran IPS is a good bet. Unlike some of Renji Panikker's recent offerings, this movie is good enough to be watched with your family and kids. The audience is spared the high-voltage non-stop dialogue delivery that is characteristic of Renji Panikker heroes in such films as PATHRUM, PRAJA and DUBAI.

Suresh Gopi has slimmed down considerably for the movie. He has really got himself into shape for this one. Hats off to him for his dedication in trying to get into the minute details of the character. He looks convincing as ever in police uniform. Watch out for him in the same uniform, in Shaji Kailas's SP, which has now been renamed as TIGER.
