Priyanka Chopra lends the film a starry edge. Conversely, her glam persona tends to be at odds at times with the overall tone of the poignant drama. What works in her favour outweighs what doesn't by a whisker. That is good enough to make The Sky Is Pink a touching, tender portrait of a couple dealing with the responsibilities of raising a daughter whose days are numbered.

The writer and director Shonali Bose bounces from tone to tone, livening the somber subject matter with bright hues, quippy dialogue and an ever-jubilant score. She is aided by the broadly appealing performances of her stars, particularly Priyanka Chopra, whose character grandly strives and sacrifices for her daughter in amusingly high style.

The Sky Is Pink, despite its leisurely 140-minute runtime, wants to make every beat and emotion a “moment”, disallowing the haunt of mundanity to penetrate the film in any way. The actors, Chopra, Akhtar and Wasim, perform in tandem with filmmaker Shonali Bose’s vision of an overtly dramatised film, with silly hairdos to demonstrate ageing.
