Prabhakar and Sai Kumar combination has produced many films earlier which have done well despite having some age old scripts.Perhaps they want to repeat the same formula every time and "Anna Thangi',the new product from their combination comes as a repetition of their earlier efforts. But this time they have gone a step further and have decided to make a film which could have looked good fifty years ago."Anna Thangi' is a film which not only has a old theme, but even presented in the old style applicable to fifties. It is an old wine in an old bottle.

Director Sai Prakash had tasted success in a film like "Thavarige Baa Thangi' which had Shivaraj Kumar and Radhika playing the role of an elder brother and sister. The film despite its illogical narration was strong on sentiments and became a raving hit. Sai Prakash has done many so called sentimental films which have failed in the Box office. But refusing to learn from these failures, Sai Prakash delivers another film in the form of "Anna Thangi' which is poorly narrated with a style that was acceptable in the fifties. You have the gory details about how women are systematically harassed by her cruel and bad mouthing female relatives, you have the starving children weeping continuously along with their mother, you have the scheming relatives wanting to break the bond of the loving brother and sister.Everything connected to the film is in old style, accept the dresses and ornaments that the characters wear on the screen. The tragic end where both the hero and his sister die after each other's death is also old fashioned. The sister however ends her life along with three children after drowning in the well constructed by her brother.

The story of the loving brother who is prepared to do anything to keep his sister happy has been told over thousand times on the screen. But some of the stories have been invested with some freshness so as to make the plot interesting. But in this film director Sai Prakash does not go to any ingenuity, but prefers sticking to a beaten track narration. The story revolves around Shivanna (Shivaraj Kumar) and his loving sister Lakshmi ( Radhika) who are attached to each other.Lakshmi's rich husband becomes a pauper after he is cheated by his own fraudulent brothers. He will be sent to jail also which makes the sister and her three children dependant on Shivanna. Lakshmi takes her children to her brother's house for some help. But Shivanna has gone out on a work to construct a temple. The sister is humiliated and sent out by Shivanna's wife and his scheming mother.Lakshmi comes out along with her three starving children. She falls into the well along with her children. The hero comes back and when he sees the tragic death of his sister he is shell shocked. He will also die of the shock.

Shivaraj Kumar comes out with a good performance, though it is sad to see such a matured and hardworking actor being seen in such meaningless films.Radhika proves her talents in this film. Hema Choudhary shines in the negative role. The comedy plot featuring Doddanna and Sadhu Kokila is of very poor taste.

Hamsalekha's lyrics are good and he has tuned two melodious songs which have come out good.Giri's photographic angles have nothing to be spoken about. All the related works of different departments in the film reminds you of the films of fifties.

If you are a fan of weepy, sentimental film with old style narration, then "Anna Thangi' may well please you. If you have some inkling to films of the new genre, then keep away from the theatres screening this film.
