"Vishnu Sena" produced by Govindoo and directed by Naganna is a well made film with strong performances from artists and a racy narration. The film is a remake of Tamil Hit "Ramana" which was later made in Telugu as "Tagore" with Mega Star Chiranjeevi. The Kannada remake has followed the narrative part of the Tamil film except the climax sequences, where the hero is hanged in the Tamil film. In that way it is a class film minus the mass elements which were plenty in "Tagore".

Vishnuvardhan plays a character which suits his present age and comes out well in the crusader's role.

There has been an argument in the Kannada film industry that remake films have stifled the creative inputs of the movie, but surprisingly the changes made in "Vishnu Sene' to suit the local taste has much been appreciated. The film is completely localized which gives it a thoroughly regional look. To that extent the film has some original aspects and the film comes at a time when the present Lok Ayuktha in the state is going hammer and tongues against the corrupt officials. It is thus a timely and contemporary film. The entire narration of the film is Karnataka focused and this makes the film more appealing.

'Vishnu Sena" is the story of a professor in College who takes on the corrupt establishment in his own style playing a jackal and Hyde act. He builds up a motivated force of ideals filled youngsters who act like a net work to kidnap the corrupt people and kill them. There is also a police investigation to find out the perpetrator of the crimes and even a Police investigator comes from Delhi. Finally, the hero surrenders and explains in the court as to why he undertook such an exercise. He also tells the judge that he had his own way to cure the ills of the society.

The narration of the film is neat and tidy. But the film is bit lengthy in the first half which could have been trimmed. The film has some rich production values, though the song compositions by Music Director Deva could have been better.

Vishnuvardhan carries the film with his fine performance and his dialogue delivery stands out in the film. Another talented actor Ramesh is equally competent as the police constable who also dabbles in an investigative mission. Veteran actor Anant Nag plays the role of the Chief Minister to perfection. Among the two heroines, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy is good, while Gurlin Chopra is just ordinary. Ashurthosh Rana and Pankaj Dheer, artists of Bollywood shine well in their respective roles. Deva scores in background music, though his song compositions lack a high quality. . Ramesh Babu has done some splendid camera work in the film. .

"Vishnu Sene" is a good present to Vishnu fans in general and his legion of female fans in particular.
