Mrudhu Bhave Dhruda Kruthye Malayalam Movie
Veteran director Shajoon Kariyal's latest directorial takes enough cues from treachery-cum-revenge template to unravel the truth behind the eventful past of the protagonist. Kariyal sticks to the tired and tested formula in 'Mrudhu Bhave Dhruda Kruthye,' which is set in a rural premise, with the performers struggling to meet the parameters of convincing performance. The events that lead to the absconding of Shankar Das, played by Sooraj Sun, from Kizhakkunattukara village to Mumbai are trite to the core and his return to the village as an entrepreneur sets the stage for divulging the real perpetrators behind the murders of his dear ones. The premise of family drama attains the trait of a revenge thriller in the climax that evokes the feeling of a tad melodrama.
Written by Ravi Thottathil and the dialogues penned by Rajesh Kurumali, 'Mrudhu Bhave Dhruda Kruthye' navigates through the regular terrains of a countryside plot. The major happenings in the village: two groups are vying with each other during the temple festival and an upper class-born Shankar Das is romancing with the maid's daughter Chinnu, played by Sravana. Quite often, the kabadi team led by Shankar Das scuppers the team of Gopi, played by Siva Raaj. The enmity between Shankar Das and Gopi grows as the latter becomes the laughing stock of the former in public. Chinnu's mother Madhavi, played by Seema G Nair, and brother Prakashan, essayed by Rajesh Kurumali, oppose her love affair with Shankar Das.
During the temple festival, a face-off between Shankar Das along with his friends including Nandu, played by Harith CNV, and Gopi's gang goes out of control, resulting in the murders of two people. Shankar Das leaves for Mumbai at night and he bumps into Meera, essayed by Maria Prince, with whom he ties the knot later. Perhaps, the events in Mumbai are the most artificially created sequences in the film. The meeting of Shankar Das in an inebriated state with a notorious goon, Sakra Paratap, played by Vijay Shetty, is an instance of absurdity and unconvincing event. Shankar Das returns to his village after many years with the plan of executing seawater desalination project of his company.
'Mrudhu Bhave Dhruda Kruthye' tries to convey the essence of the riveting title with a superficially-executed tale. Mediocre performances of actors hamper the possible prospect of the film that is reminiscent of many flicks with the same format. In hindsight, there is hardly any valid reason for the grudge between Gopi and Shankar Das. The sequences related to their lives are contrived and the justification in the tale fails to register properly. The twist in the climax with the flashback seems to be a disorganized exercise and Suresh Krishna's role as police SP Chandrabhanu adds little impact to the culmination. All the eventful happenings are exciting on paper but the same effect is missing while being adapted to screen.
It seems the hero's responsibility is pretty heavy on the shoulders of Sooraj Sun and his emotions lack the soul to grab the assigned onscreen space. Like her debut in 2018-film 'Thattumpurath Achuthan,' here also Sravana is assigned to follow the mannerisms of naïve village lass with hardly anything to do outstanding. The dance sequence featuring actress Sunny Leone in the beginning of second half contributes little significance to the story. As a revenge drama, the movie lacks enough punch and vitality as it is infested with cliched events and lacklustre performances.
