Ali and Abbas (Sanjay Kapoor & Arbaaz Khan) are brainy engineers cum arm dealers for the ISI. (Our desi villains finally get literate). Along with moll Laila (Isha), they have held 230 tourists as hostages on an island that was formerly a Jail. Virus tipped missiles are set to hit the city's water resources if their demand for Rs 1500 crores and escape from India are not met with. Akram (Suniel Shetty), a CBI officer, puts down a plan of action. He needs the help of one man. A convict - Rachit (Ajay Devgan), for he knows the underwater way to the island. The government has only 24 hours in which Rachit is summoned, given a trendy haircut plus a change of wardrobe, a plan is devised and a mission is set.

The point where the movie scores is in its slick and stylish presentation. Terms like Chemical and Biological weapons, missiles, viruses and other sci-fi jargons are used with techno-finesse. Though most of the action sequences comprises of the Matrix style wire-aided stunts, they are well executed. The underground sets are fantastic. The alternating slow motion shot execution (last seen in Kaante) is used to good effect. On the flipside, the love story is totally out of place in an action thriller and songs highly interrupting.

Ajay remains silent throughout the second half but as usual expresses through his eyes. Sunil Shetty gets all the Pak bashing lines. Sanjay and Arbaaz are commendable. But why was Chunky Pandey added as a scientist in shorts, dressed like in Hawaii when he's actually in Mumbai. The females are restricted to bikini shows.

For those interested in unpretentious entertainment, Qayamat has the requisite amount of zing and zap. Go have a blast.
