Kalabhavan Mani is back in style with Chacko Randaaman. But is he back with a bang' That's for the audience to decide, as the film comes shortly after the lack-luster performance of ''Kissan'' and a forgettable ''Narakasuran''.

After watching the movie, one gets the feeling that Kalabhavan Mani is getting typecast, with films like ''Ben Johnson'', ''Lokanathan IAS'', ''Raavanan'' and ''Narakasuran'' having him do similar characters. The list is far from complete, with three or four more to be released shortly, and a few others in the pipeline.

What does ''Chacko Randaman'' have to offer' A not -so-strong but, not so bad storyline; adept direction; rehashed action scenes from films that had Mohanlal, Mammootty or Suresh Gopi in the lead as well as from some Tamil films; some superb punch line dialogues; sensitive performance by Mani in all the three roles he is doing though they are poles apart from each other in terms of body language and dialogue delivery; superbly choreographed action scenes, one particular scene reminding you of the Chandramukhi entry scene of super star Rajinikant himself; some good comedy by Harisree Ashokan and gang with a lot of masala and spice to top it; and last but not least excellent make-up..

The story has nothing new to offer, but the director is successful in unfolding it at a very fast pace throughout the entire two and a half hours. It's about a feud between families of Ottachavittu Chacko and Parunthu Gopi.

How the feud is transferred from one generation to another, what is the reason behind it, when is it going to end, how is it going to end and who is going to end it, forms the gist of the story in which a major responsibility rests on the three roles played by Kalabhavan Mani. Watching him do the three roles of a grandfather, father and son is a treat.

Jyothirmayi has a smaller role, playing grandmother to the youngest Mani and wife to the eldest Mani. Other actors like Anil Aditya and Vijayaraghavan and also to certain extend Bheeman Raghu and Baburaj do a fair job

Go to the movie without very high expectations, and you might come out rather pleased with it. Chacko Randaaman should see the actor through till his Onam release - Red Salute, which hopefully will be something different from Kalabhavan Mani.
