CRITICAL RESPONSE

Mardaani 3 brings Rani Mukerji back as Shivani Shivaji Roy, but the third instalment struggles to live up to the legacy of the first two films. While critics unanimously praise Mukerji’s fierce screen presence and emotional conviction, the film is widely faulted for its formulaic writing, recycled themes, and predictable narrative beats. Several reviewers note that the film rehashes ideas seen not only in earlier Mardaani entries but also in recent crime dramas like Delhi Crime. The socially relevant theme of child trafficking and systemic apathy carries emotional weight, yet the execution is seen as loud, bombastic, and increasingly hollow after the interval. The first half is generally considered engaging, but the second half is where the film “loses steam,” with weak antagonists, clichéd twists, and overcooked emotions. Despite this, the climax is repeatedly highlighted as intense and disturbing, leaving a lasting impact. In essence, critics feel that Mardaani 3 is a film powered almost entirely by its lead actor, while its screenplay and direction fail to justify a third chapter.

Verdict:

Mardaani 3 is a well-intentioned but uneven franchise entry. Rani Mukerji’s performance anchors the film, but a stale narrative, predictable plotting, and lack of freshness prevent it from reaching the heights of its predecessors. It remains a watchable but disappointing sequel that feels more reheated than revolutionary.
