When most of the Kannada films are depending on stories that have been seen enough and following a beaten track narration, it is certainly a matter of satisfaction that a first time director has focused on the modeling world in a film.

It is a welcome development that director Nandakumar who is a well known journalist in the Kannada film industry for more than fifteen years has chosen a subject which has not been dealt so far in a Kannada film. But what is surprising is that despite being a journalist Nandakumar has not provided the needed inputs into the story and there has been many sequences which just look theatrical.

He could have done a little more homework to present a credible story of the modeling world. Many sequences are weak in impact mainly because of the weak script. The film enlivens because of strong performances by Anirudhdh and Akshay Krishna and good technical work. But the two heroines who should have shined well have just excelled in the skin show.

''Good Luck'' does not boast of a strong story either. The rivalry, jealousy, one up man ship in the glamour world is showcased in a few sequences of the film. In a way, Nanda Kumar has tried to weave a story having some of the real life incidents that were seen in the modeling world. The positive fall out is that people who know about the modeling world may also identify some of the key sequences of the film. And in the final sequences, Nandakumar falters again by showing that Akshay Krishna is reformed just by a dialogue of Anirudhdh.

Ani is a fashion designer who secretly loves the top model Mandakini. But Mandakini fails to recognize Ani's intentions and his true love for her. She is already under the iron grip of Ajay, a cantankerous model co-coordinator who thinks that women are just sex objects to be exploited. Ajay has an affair with Shiba another model whom who uses as a tool to spite Mandakini many a times.

Ajay has some designs on Mandakini and tries to seduce her. But Ani will come to know of the plans of Ajay and even warn Mandakini. But Mandakini does not take Ani's words seriously. Finally, Mandakini comes to know of Ajay's mean plans and also realize that Ani is trying to save her every time she was in danger. Finally, Ani thwarts the attempt of Ajay who wants to deface Mandakini's face by throwing acid.

Akshay Krishna has excelled in the role of Ajay. Though he plays a negative character in the film, he has acquitted well. Anirudhdh proves that he is a fine actor and his dialogue delivery is very good. Radhika has excelled in exposing her body and another heroine Daamini has gone one step ahead in this respect.

'Good Luck'' is backed by a team of competent technicians which has helped the film. P.K.H. Doss is brilliant in the camera side, while Rajesh Ramnath has shown that he can be successful even when he composed original tunes. The editing could have been sharper.

''Good Luck'' tells the story of a modeling world which was an alien space for the Kannada films so far. It may not be a very good offering, but a film which could be watched for being a little different. The film is alive, but not kicking to the expected levels.
