"Ravi Shashtry" is another remake film that comes from the stable of Sandesh Nagaraj and Ravichandran combination.

Just a few weeks ago "Odahuttidavalu" starring Ravichandran which was a remake of Tamil Hit "Porkaalam" was released and vanished in thin air within a few weeks. Now, another remake film "Ravi Shashtry" based on K.Bhagyaraj’s Tamil hit "Idhu Namma Aalu" is hitting the screen.

The producer of this film had boasted before the release of this film that entire shooting was completed in 28 days, but still the film is comparable to the original film.

The film really comes as a cropper and it is definite that Sandesh had made an empty boast just with an intention to promote the film. M.S.Rajashekhar, a veteran in the industry has certainly not helped the film any better because his poor handling of the message oriented subject is visible in every sequence of the film.

Another problem for the film is substantial portions of the film was taken in another Kannada film "Aliya Alla Magala Ganda" featuring Jaggesh in the lead which was released a few years ago.

In this context, "Ravi Shashtry" may well look like a repetition of what they had seen in another Kannada film earlier. But to be fair to "Ravi Shasthry", it is the film for which remake rights have been bought officially, but its presentation on the screen is so insipid that K.Bhagyaraj would certainly fume if at all he sees this film.

"Ravi Shasthry" revolves around Ravi belonging to a backward class being forced to pretend as a Brahmin to earn his livelihood. He is staying with a rich and traditional minded scripture bound Brahmin who takes a special liking for him. The traditional bound Shashtry arranges his daughter’s marriage with Ravi without realizing that he is from a lower cast. He will know the truth on the day of marriage. Then Ravi wins over the Brahmin family with his good deeds and big heart.

The first half of the film has some enjoyable sequences, but the proceedings in the second half is boring and drags continuously.

The two duet songs in the film that comes in the second half does not come as a relief, but it is badly shot and choreographed. Even the music of the film is just ordinary.

Ravichandran with his usual wit and humor is passable, but it is unfortunate that a talented actress like Sneha is wasted in her first Kannada film. But Umashri and Karibasavayya are impressive. There is nothing to write about other artists.

Technical values are poor and the making of the film itself does not merit any attention.

"Ravi Shashtry" is just an ordinary film and even ardent Ravichandran fans may feel a great sense of disappointment after seeing this film.
