Vedha Tamil Movie

Feature Film | 2008
Critics:
The film is based on a story that is outdated, but if the director and the scenarist had worked better on it, they could have made something better out of it. As such Vedha is a total let-down.

Why take the trouble of watching such movies? That's exactly the question that would keep haunting you after you have seen the recently released Vedha. The film tells the story of sacrifice and of love. Vijay (Arun Vijay) and Vadhan (Jerovardhan) are the sons of a rich widow (Seetha). The two brothers share a very intense bond of love and attachment. Vijay is always ready to do anything for his brother, who is not the one to take failure so easily. Moreover, Vadhan is afflicted with some heart ailment too, on account of which his mother and brother take extra care of him. It is hence that Vijay sees to it that Vadhan wins races, comes out successful in college elections, and succeeds in whatever else he sets his mind to. He even clashes with the influential local don Satya (Satyaprakash) for the sake of his brother.

In the meantime Vijay gets close to a girl, whose name is Vedha (Sheela), with whom he even gets physically intimate under certain circumstances. But later Vijay comes to know that Vadhan too is madly in love with Vedha and even threatens to commit suicide if he doesn't get to marry Vedha, without realizing that Vedha is actually his brother's lover. Vijay, the loving brother, makes the supreme sacrifice of deserting his sweetheart for the sake of his brother. The marriage takes place. But things do not end there. There are twists and turns that follow one another.

Performance-wise, all the lead players seem to be just so so. Arun Vijay hasn't improved much from his earlier films. Neither Sheela nor Jerovardhan impress us much. Seetha is just OK. Karunas is good, but his is just a comedy track. Satyaprakash is good as Satya. The songs are good enough, but not spectacular. The main problem with the film has to do with the scenarist and the director. The film is based on a story that is outdated, but if the director and the scenarist had worked better on it, they could have made something better out of it. As such Vedha is a total let-down.
