The time is ripe for introducing new faces in the Kannada film industry. How can you explain the success of Kannada Films featuring new artists these days? 'Sixer' produced by Ramoji Rao of Usha Kiron Movies and directed by Shashank is another Kannada film that introduces new hero and a new heroine. The new hero is none other than Prajwal Devaraj, son of Actor Devaraj who has a creditable achievement in Kannada and Telugu film industry as a dependable actor. Devaraj has acted in leading role in many Kannada films and is still busy as a hero. Prajwal his teen aged son makes a good debut in 'Sixer' and proves that he can be a welcome addition to the Kannada film industry as a lively actor. It is Prajwal who is a live wire of the film 'Sixer' which does not boast of a great story or a fantastic narration. The film which is made with a reasonable budget has many minus points, but one thing that strikes the viewer is the easiness with which Prajwal handles his role. In a way he demonstrates that acting is in his blood. (Both Devaraj and his wife Chandrakala were stage and movie artists).


But this advantage apart, 'Sixer' has many negative factors working against it. Director Shashank who starts the film well takes his imagination wild in many sequences. The director compromises the quality in the second half and the film looks life having lost its sheen completely. But thankfully the unusual climax becomes a savior. The director is able to build a heightened curiosity towards the end of the film which makes it appealing to the viewers.


'Sixer' is primarily targeted for the young audience and film starts in the same style of many youthful films. But it takes a turn very quickly and from here on there is a cat and mouse game between hero and the heroine in the beginning and the hero and the villain later. The first half keeps the audience engaged.


As the title suggests, the hero of the film is a cricket enthusiast who writes many things about Sachin Tendulkar even in his annual examination paper. Cricket forms the base of the story, as his passion to the game which leads him to take a temporary work with an underworld Don. Then his responsibilities and work profile changes as Don instructs him to love a girl who is already engaged to a Minister's daughter. The girl is the daughter of a rival don who was his one time boss. The hero starts his work to woo the heroine. The villain wants to stop the marriage of the girl only to put a spoke into the desires of his rival to have a political grounding. The marriage is stopped and surprisingly the two dons become closer now. Then an unusual twist happens which brings the hero closer to the heroine again. What happens to the heroine who becomes a pawn in the game of two dons and the hero is narrated later. The climax unites the hero and heroine.


As earlier said Prajwal shines throughout the film. Devaki from Vizag for whom this is the first film fails to impress. Rangayana Raghu as the villain over acts and Aadi Lokesh should certainly think of some thing different than repeating his gestures seen in 'Jogi'. Avinash comes good in a cameo.


The music by Hamsalekha is certainly not best to the standards that he has set in. Even the lyrics are not so inspiring. Joshi's photography passes muster. Prasanna's dialogues are impressive.
