Bhoopathy is Darshan's 25th film as a hero. Darshan rose to commanding heights in the Kannada film industry after the fantastic success of his films like Kalaasipalya and Ayya and became the most sought after star. He then lost some weight and was seen in new looks and new attire in every film. But the story and presentation of his films became quite repetitive and the audience who had liked his action image started finding them monotonous. His films fell below expectations since then. But Bhoopathy is of different mettle, the film's director S.Govind had declared in several press briefings. Even Darshan had said that his characterization will be quite different from all the films he had acted so far. But the film itself belies all expectations of any difference. It is just another addition to the list of pot boilers which do not have anything fresh to offer. Well, Darshan is truly in his elements in the actions sequences of the films, but that is not something special as they are essentially his USP.

Bhoopathy tells the story of a youngster who is just waiting for his IAS examination results. He is a do goodie who is a darling of poor people living in slums and his friends for whom he is messiah. He accidentally meets a doctor who is none other than the daughter of a Chief Minister. The Chief Minister is a doting father who does not want his daughter to get married and move out of his house. He is basically a good man wants to help the people, but becomes very hostile when he learns that Bhoopathy is in love with his daughter. He creates all sorts of bottlenecks to see that Bhoopathy is prevented from seeing his daughter. He does everything in a way that his daughter does not have a slightest hint of his plans. But Bhoopathy directly takes on the Chief Minister and even appears in a live TV Show to announce that he is in love with Chief Minister's daughter. The enraged Chief Minister even compromises with the opposition party leader who plans to kill the family members of the hero. But the hero finally fights for his love and makes it clear that for him his mother is more important that the love.

Director Govind presents Darshan in a larger than life image and you will remember many sequences of Rajnikanth's films in the sequences when the hero confronts the chief minister. As for his story is concerned it is the same old wine which has been tasted many number of times by the audience. And the film has the same quota of songs of variety and two of them are shot in abroad like many previous films of Darshan.

Darshan has done the same type of character in many films before. The only difference is that he is presented with designer cloths, a new hair do and a different get up. His punch dialogues are becoming monotonous these days. However he shines in the climax sequence and also in the action sequences. Shirin who has made a comeback to the Kannada film industry after a long time gives an impression that he has not learnt any lessons from her first film "Dhruva' which had introduced her. Bollywood Villain Mukesh Rishi is just ordinary as a chief minister as his role is not well defined. Sumalatha and K.S.Aswath have one scene each of importance.

Music Director Harikrishna who made a grand debut in "Jothe Jotheyalli' composes two songs for the film which are shot in abroad. Venus Murthy's cinematographic work leaves much to be desired.

An ordinary fare which may likely impress Darshan's hardcore fans.
