Chakraviyugam Tamil Movie
It's a lucky break for cinematographer Natraj, affectionately called "Nutty". He should thank his stars and producer Shree Ashtavinayak, who has turned him a hero overnight. "Chakravyuham" provides him the platform to prove himself as an actor, coming from behind the camera and facing it. Nutty has won accolades for his brilliant camerawork for the Hindi film "Jab We Met" produced by Shree Ashtavinayak. Chakravyuham is an action thriller said to be based on the story of a Hindi film made in the 80s.
An income-tax officer suddenly becomes avaricious and wants to get rich quickly. On the pretext of unearthing black money, he stages a raid on the house of a multi- millionaire, seizes Rs 10 crores and stashes it away. After the raid he gets murdered. His sister Sandhya (Daisy Bopanna), a BPO employee, lives with his 10-year-old nephew. She falls in love with Kanna (Natraj), a call-taxi driver whose daily routine is to pick her up and drop. Two goons stalk her for the Rs 10 crores her brother had stashed away. Kanna comes to the help of Sandhya. A loutish cop (Jayasurya) in the investigating team joins them. High drama follows.
The forming of sequences is not in order. Perhaps the director thought suspense is all important. The raid and the murder of the income-tax officer take place in Kolkata and the very next sequence begins in Chennai. This disorients the audience.
Some scenes featuring Daisy and Natraj as a prelude to their romance, which should be real fun, are dull and drab.
The film gains momentum after the IT officer has been shot dead in Kolkata. Police investigator Jayasurya's body language and expressions are a clear giveaway _ that he is behind the crime. The suspense element is taken away. The plus point is that the audience is kept in suspense about the identity of Natraj till the end. That he is in fact the police officer assigned to unravel the murder mystery is revealed in the climax.
Natraj has to improve his acting skill to make his screen presence felt.
Though many scenes have offered Daisy plenty of scope to tap her potential, she let go the opportunities. She needs to work hard to get identity.
In the first place, flabby Daisy and lanky Natraj are incompatible and so their on-screen vibes do not create fervor.
Karthik Raja's music is not peppy enough to create any impact.
Dwaraknath's camera has captured Kolkata in all its facets - ugly and beautiful.
Though the theme is interesting, there are no surprises. After the first few scenes, Director Udayabhanu errs in reverting to the hackneyed cinema formula to stretch the film.
"Chakravyuham" is good in parts.
