Taare Zameen Par is Aamir Khan's debut as a director. He has also produced and acted in the movie starring Darsheel Safary in the lead.

Ishaan Awasthi (Darsheel Safary) is an eight-year-old whose world is filled with wonders that no one else seems to appreciate; colors, fish, dogs and kites are just not important in the world of adults, who are much more interested in things like homework, marks and neatness. And Ishaan just cannot seem to get anything right in class. He gets into more trouble than his parents can handle, he is packed off to a boarding school to 'be disciplined'. Things are no different at his new school, and Ishaan has to contend with the added trauma of separation from his family.

One day a new art teacher bursts onto the scene, Ram Shankar Nikumbh (Aamir Khan), who infects the students with joy and optimism. He breaks all the rules of 'how things are done' by asking them to think, dream and imagine, and all the children respond with enthusiasm, all except Ishaan. Nikumbh soon realizes that Ishaan is very unhappy, and he sets out to discover why. With time, patience and care, he ultimately helps Ishaan find himself.

Taare Zameen Par is the right wheels that Aamir Khan has chosen for his directorial debut. Entertainment and enlightenment go hand-in-hand in this socially relevant movie. No finger of our hands is of the same height and similarly every child is different and unique in their own ways. Aamir Khan has handled the delicate subject with maturity and precision. From the first scene to the last, you feel a strong bond grow between you and Ishaan for whom you tend to feel deeply for. Throughout the movie the focus is mostly on the child and Aamir has deftly captured every emotion and feeling of the child thereby illustrating and maintaining the significance of the movie till the last frame. Some sequences in the movie leave you moist-eyed and at the end of the movie you are left spellbound and speechless. As the movie nears the climax, the painting competitions held is when the emotions reach to the highest peak. Music by Shanker – Ehsaan - Loy is great and lyrics by Prasoon Joshi are brilliant.

Taare Zameen Par belongs to Master Darsheel Safary; he carries the entire first half on his shoulders. Mind blowing performance! Aamir Khan, the Mr. Dependable of Bollywood is in form yet again.

To sum things up, Taare Zameen Par is great movie with great values which deserves every bit of commercial and critical success that it should get. A must watch for both parents and children, for it will change the way you look at your child and the world.

Rating: 4 / 5 (Must Watch!)
