SMS is supposedly a mobile phone thriller that's no fun even if you decide to cast away that last bit of logic that you have been dearly holding on to. Its so goofy, that if you set your mobile to beep at every plot hole that it came across, it would run out of batteries and be dead in no time for sure.

From what I could comprehend, I firmly believe that Kichan (Bala) and Indu (Navya) had been Law College students who were head over heels in love, until the girl ended it all by jumping off the college terrace. Officer Robart (Mukesh) - blame the odd 'a' on the guy's name board - suspects even a drug mafia behind the death, since he isn't really convinced if Indu was in the depths of despair.

There is an endless deliberation as to whether it's a murder or a suicide, and it's unfortunate that the viewer maintains an odd disinterest in the whole affair. It's almost as if they don't care really, and there are very few moments when they actually get involved. On second thoughts, I would cut those down further to nil actually.

It's amazing how the film can go on endlessly about a trivial event that shouldn't have been there in the first place. There is an incident regarding a shirt that wouldn't even have found a mention here, had it not been for the horrifying lengths to which it is stretched out. So there is a discussion that shows no signs of ending for about twenty minutes on this episode with absolutely no significance whatsoever; one of those rare instances when you feel like pulling your hair out and eating it.

So this was a real bad hair day, as you see, and I was having good trouble keeping up with what was happening on screen. Not that there was much of it, anyway. And it was then that it dawned on me, that it mustn't have taken much more time than texting a message, to script this entire film. Perhaps there lay the relevance of the title.

I admit, I should be fair and divulge that there's more significance to the title than that. There is this man (Anoop Chandran) who sends messages to unknown random numbers from his friend's phone in the film, most of which are lewd and obscene. One of these end up in a girl's (Kalyani) mobile while she is about to be engaged. The marriage gets called off, her dad dies of a heartbreak and the girl vows vengeance. Quite believable, huh? You got to see the rest of it as well, and find out for yourself as to why this one is one helluva film wreck.

This is an addition to the list of sorry films that we have caught Bala in, lately. Such a pity really, since the man deserves something much better. Performances are lackluster through out, though there are a few opportunities to come across some real bad attempts at histrionics, towards the climax. It gets real messy after a while, and in the whole muddle, even actors lose their sensibilities.

If you find yourself watching SMS in the movie halls, it would suffice to say that this one is a real frustrating, out-of range call, that you have just lent your ears to. I could go on till eternity, but I would wind up saying that some serious text is missing here.
