If you have the least regard for your hard-earned money and your precious time, don't even think of going to see 'SMS'. Totally insufferable, that's what this Sarjulan-directed movie is.

'SMS' has as the key characters Kichan and Indumathi, two Law College students, who first clash with each other and then fall in love. Kichan has as his friends Soman and Satheeshan, of whom Soman, though a good and sincere friend, has the habit of sending lewd SMS messages to random numbers from Kichan's mobile phone. And then one day, Indumathi sees an SMS message in Kichan's mobile phone. This marks the beginning of trouble which culminates in Indumathi jumping to her death from the top of the college building.

All this is presented in flashback as part an investigation into the death of Indumathi, conducted by a Special Investigation Officer Robert Mathew (the makers even didn't care to spell the name correctly on the officer's name plate, where it is 'Robart' and not 'Robert'). Robert Mathew feels that there is much more to the death than meets the eye. His investigation leads us to the climax of the film, if one can call it that.

Bala as Kichan and Navya Nair as Indumathi don't impress us at all. Poorly etched out characters and inept direction has resulted in these actors performing poorly. Mukesh as Robert Mathew too doesn't impress. As a matter of fact not one of the many artists, including Jagathy Sreekumar, seems to impress in any way.

The songs, the cinematography, the editing - everything is far from being impressive. 'SMS' is a film that has been made too carelessly, with no attention being paid to the script or the direction side. A total bore.
