'Gandana Mane' produced by R.S.Gowda and directed S.Mahendar known for making sentimental flicks has nothing new to offer in terms of story. And the narration style is not fresh and gives a feel that it is an age-old film. In these times when many Kannada film directors are breaking grounds with stories of new concept a film like 'Gandana Mane' may look completely out of place. But still there are people like the film's producer Gowda who have made lots of money through sentimental flicks like 'Tavarige Baa Thangi' and 'Maharaaja' are placing their bets on stories of age-old formulas and tried out potboilers.

The only special feature of the film is that the film's hero Shivaraj Kumar plays the role of the Bus Conductor in the film. The actor's fans were excited because it was for the first time that Shivaraj Kumar plays the role of a Bus conductor. And Shivaraj Kumar who looks so lively as a Bus Conductor is at his emotional best in the sentimental sequences. This is the highlight of the film. Even the film's heroine Gauri Munjal has played her role quite effectively. And as usual Character artist Doddanna is best. But for these plus factors, the film has nothing to convey in the form of message or any fresh concept.

Raja is the Bus Conductor who would have come from his village to the city for search of a job. He has a large family to look after and he reserved a major portion of his earnings to the benefit of his family in the village. Gauri, the daughter of a rich man, likes raja's good-humored nature and helping mentality. Gauri persuades Raja to marry her and encounters stiff opposition from her father. Raja and Gauri lead a normal life, but face many obstacles to continue a harmonious relationship. Some small tensions in the family lead to the separation of the couple. Then both husband and wife realize that they cannot live separately and are united again. Their bond of love wins over the petty family squabbles.

Writer Madhu or director Mahendar has not made any attempts to follow a different pattern of narration. The takings and shot compositions also lack finesse. The dialogues of the film have been heard several times before in many sentimental flicks that are made in Kannada. However, Music director Manohar has composed two hit songs including the title song, which has not been shot well.

Gandana Mane is just an ordinary fare, but for V.Manohar's two musical tunes.
